About me

I’ve been creative for a long time. I know what it’s like to feel frustrated when your tools are getting in the way. But I’m here to help.

That’s why I started Uncaught Exception. To help you clear those roadblocks or make decisions to keep your creativity flowing and get your projects published to the world.

I’ve been interested in technology since I was a child and was first attracted to the Mac in 1985 when a friend showed me that it came with a range of fonts. So different to the bland dot-matrix printouts I was offered at school. When I went to the computer shop and saw MacPaint, I was hooked. I’ve kept my eye on the industry since then and Apple is still my preference. I’m aware of their shortcomings but the good outweighs the flaws.

I have been supporting Apple technology for over 24 years, selling software, repairing hardware, supporting a Creative Services team at a publishing organization then scientists at a medical research organization. This has given me experience with hundreds of software packages on Mac, Windows and Linux, and troubleshooting problems from the desktop or laptop, through to the the network and server.

I have played a musical instrument on and off since I had piano and violin lessons as a child. I’ve been playing bass in several bands for many years and have released several albums with my current band.

Since 2003 I have been writing and recording my own songs. I mostly use Logic Pro but also work with Ableton Live. I have bought and endeavour to learn other DAWs such as Cubase and Studio One.

Since 2012 I have been an amateur digital artist and photographer and have worked with hundreds of apps for art and effects and photo editing on iPads and iPhones. On the Mac I started with the Adobe suite and have recently started learning the Affinity suite. For video I am using Final Cut Pro on the Mac and learning LumaFusion on the iPad.

With my encyclopedic knowledge of the software market — both local apps and online tools— I’m confident I can help you make the best choices for productivity and creativity, or improve your product with beta testing, documentation writing or proofreading and other evaluation. Let’s talk.
